PRESIDENT’S CORNER
August
2007
Much has happened this year. The
club members entered Eight cars in the 2007 Atlanta World of Wheels,
and all Eight came away with trophies. Some of those were Best In
Class. Pretty good, considering they were competing against a few
‘Vettes. Some members also entered the Charlotte Lowes
AutoFair and came away winners. Congratulations to you all.
We also fielded 15 Fieros in the 2007 Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day
Parade.
After having only One entrant in the
2006 All Pontiacs At Pigeon Forge show, we were back En Masse this year
with about Twelve Fieros. This includes members of the East
Tennessee Fiero Club, as well as some Fiero owners from North
Carolina. The promoters created a Fiero Class trophy so we
weren’t competing against GTO’s and the like. Had all who had
planned to enter gotten there, we would have had about 15 cars in the
show. Don Hulse, Georgia; Pat Swayne, Georgia; Jack Cooke, North
Carolina; and Gary Murray, Tennessee took the trophies.
The East Tennessee Fiero Club held
it’s 2nd Annual Burger Burn At The Lake, in Decatur, Tn., with a great
showing, including 4 cars from our club.
I’d also like to introduce a few new
people to the club. I may miss some, but you know how an Old
Man’s memory is. Some of the new folks include Peter Hoover, Tom
Green, Alan Hood, Clyde Davis, Conrad and Johnnie Cheney and Ron
Robinson.
Peter Hoover was the man who helped
with photography of the RFTH 11. He enjoyed driving my Fiero so
much that he bought one of Ronnie’s 86 GT’s, and has done a wonderful
job in making the car a beauty. It entered it’s first competition
at the All Pontiacs At Pigeon Forge show, June 1 and 2.
Tom Green is from the Waleska area,
and though he was with us last year, he has been attending on a more
regular basis this year. Welcome, Tom.
Ron Robinson has been a constant
presence with us in the Atlanta St. Patrick’s Day Parade, driving down
from North Carolina each year. Ron owns several Fieros, and is
also a motorcycle enthusiast. Having secured a job as a
helicopter mechanic in the Franklin, NC area, he has pulled up roots in
Fayetteville, NC and is now just an hour and a half away from us.
Says he has plans to move on down to the Atlanta area.
Clyde Davis is also another of our
North Georgia members. Clyde is the owner of a 4-cylinder coupe,
and has just recently purchased an 86 GT for further enjoyment of the
mountains around his Blairsville, Ga. hometown.
Alan Hood and Conrad and Johnnie
Cheney have not attended a meeting, yet, but they have made a strong
presence with our Georgia Fiero Club website message board. They
have quickly discovered the friendly and helpful people that our club
embodies.
Alan is the proud new owner of an 87
Mera that had been seriously neglected by it’s previous owner.
Though it had only about 70K miles, the paint and interior was in very
poor condition. It has now experienced the talents of Don Hulse
and Ashby Arnett. It was then sent to B L Burnett Paint and Body,
in Winder, Ga. to get a fresh coat of red paint. Look for more on
this car in coming months.
Conrad and Johnnie Cheney are also
new owners of a Fiero. Having been enjoying the sports car world
in their Porsche, they have quickly discovered that it doesn’t have to
be an import to give “Excitement”.
Run For The Hills 12 has been laid
out and the course has been finalized. We’ll be basing the run at the
Comfort Inn in Dawsonville, Ga. I’ll try to keep you up to date
as I fine tune everything to assure that the Cruisers and the Drivers
all have an enjoyable weekend.
