2013 Polar Bear Run

Haven't seen or heard anything about this year's Polar Bear Run.  Is it scheduled for December 28?  Where is the meeting place and where do they plan to go?  Inquiring Minds Want To Know!

I plan to be there.  Maybe take one route to Jasper and the other on the return trip.

The run was fun... Here are some pictures from it...

What an eclectic group of vehicles!   I noticed the Reatta right away in the first photo; rare, indeed.  And with all the British cars there, I could have had a field day telling Lucas Electrics jokes! ;-)

Wish I could have made this one.

This was early on.  By the time we pulled out, most of 6 parking lanes were full.  Lots of MG's.  The Miata Club showed up and the Triumphs, of course.  Pat and I ran along behind that big '59 Bonneville convertible all day.  I think it gave us good gas mileage since most of his gas was coming out the exhaust.  Choke was stuck on it and it was running extremely rich.  All the cars purred like freshly coming off the dealer lot and I don't know if there were any break downs this year.  There were also a number of Mini Cooper's in the group. 

Those with the tops down arrived at the Woodbridge Inn with the tops still down even though we ran in and out of rain during the last half of the drive.  I got a big chuckle when I saw the Cobra pull in.  There was a young boy in the passenger seat.  Only his head visible above the top of the door.  Or should I say only his nose.  He was wearing a snorkel jacket, fully zipped with only his nose sticking out. 

Anyway, here's some more pictures.  Basically the same cars but different angles.

Great pix and I'm sure y'all had a good time. They are a fun bunch to roam with.
Charlie treated me to that BBQ joint when we were returning from Whodeanie's. Good chow!

I'm sure there is a joke in there somewhere about MG's not being able to hold their seat belts ;-)

And I'll bet that little 'wind-up' car got the best MPG!

Pat and I talked about the possibility that the drive might be a good foliage tour this fall.  We could also make Amos's BBQ a lunch stop, too.  Amos's BBQ is on Hwy 369 in Ball Ground, Ga.  It's just east of the split of Hwy 369 and Hwy 20, Canton Highway, and just east of the intersection of Hwy 369 and 372.  Seating inside only seats about 15, but the front porch has room for another 15 or 20.  If you like hot sauce on your BBQ, bring your own.  They only have one sauce.

There were some interesting roads on the route we took (which they called the "Wild Willy" route. Some were a bit rough to use for RFTH speeds, but would make for a fun color cruise. I wonder how the suspensions on those little British cars did?

The Bonneville was on the run, and he had a navigator in the car. Besides, he was actually doing better on the curves than the occasional other vehicle that got in front of us.
